Ed Willett and Cheryl Leah have been writing songs together for several decades. Their writing and recording has contributed to the strength of a diverse array of projects, from a hit CBS TV show called "Northern Exposure" to a touring performance written for the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service and many, many stops in between.
The examples below illustrate our ability to write in many styles and many genres, an ability crucially important and one that enables us to create the effect our clients are looking for. We added video to the first two songs below so that you might experience a little bit of the context for what we were tasked to write about. Each of the three examples below required weeks of research working closely with the clients making sure we were on a course that would lead to their being happy with the end product.
The first song below, "Never Far From The Tree" is an origin story that came straight from the apple growing couple that hatched the idea for the festival. The second was written in celebration of a seed corn empire now in its fourth generation of operation that was built on the foundation of knowing your clients and both working and playing together. The third was written for the 150 year celebration of the forming of an organization, "The Duluth Bethel" which has been a place of refuge and restoration since 1873.
This three day festival attracts between 40 and 60 thousand people every year. We were hired to tell the story of how this amazing gem began.
A film in celebration of our good friend Don Funk. He hosted concerts at his lodge on Lake Gogebic in the upper peninsula of Michigan. When hired to write this song his only request was that it contained the shouted phrase "Hey Fun Seekers" which was the way he started all of the house concerts he hosted. His philosophy in most things was "work hard, play hard", an idea that he applied to his business and personal life.
The Bethel is a recovery and rehabilitation center in Duluth MN that in 2023 was celebrating their 150th year of continuous service to the community. They were established in 1873 by the Western Seaman's Association to help Great Lake sailors who were battling alcoholism. The organization later expanded to help unwed mothers, children and many more.
